A healthy sports recipe with chocolate…. Yeah right! But yes, it is absolutely possible and this recipe proves it. The reason has to do with the special nutrient profile of cocoa. Did you know that cocoa contains even more antioxidants than Açai and that it is precisely these antioxidants that are so important when you work out? When you exercise, free radicals are released, these are substances that damage our cells. If they are not produced in too large quantities, this is nothing to worry about (so keep on exercising!) But it is important to “defuse” these free radicals as much as possible through food high in antioxidants. Two of nature’s greatest sources of antioxidants are açai and cocoa. The perfect excuse to justify that chocolate (and Açai) addiction 🙂
What do you need?
- 100g Holy Berry – Açai berries, defrosted
- 1 banana, frozen and in pieces
- 1 tsp cocoa powder
- 1 serving of chocolate protein powder of your choice
- ¼ cup plant-based milk
- 1 tsp maca
- ¼ cup granola (the crunchier, the better)
- 1 tsp cacao nibs
- 1 tsp grated coconut
- Fresh, sliced strawberries and/or banana slices
How do you make it?
Mix the plant-based milk with the protein powder, cocoa powder and maca powder. Add the frozen banana and 100g Açai berries and mix until smooth. You want this preparation to be extra thick, so if you need to add some more liquid to ease the mixing, do so slowly and carefully. Put the smoothie bowl in a bowl and top with as many toppings as you like! You deserved it!
